Fire outbreak at MMIA, flight operations diverted to D-Wing
Fire broke out Thursday morning at the E54 Bridge of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal One with firefighters battling for more than one hour to put the fire out.
The quick intervention of the electrical engineers to immediately cut off power to the E Wing prevented the fire from extending to other areas of the terminal.
Consequently, all flight operations in terminal One of the Lagos International Airport have been diverted to the D Wing of the same terminal.
The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team was said to have quickly responded, arriving at the scene by 3.30 AM.
Spokeswoman for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Obiageli Orah said the initial suspicions point to sparks from an electrical unit as the cause, but disclosed that a thorough investigation was ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
The incident according to Orah escalated into a fire and was brought under control by 06.41 hours, adding that efforts to ventilate the smoke from the building were in progress.
According to her, “In the meantime, all flight operations in the building terminal one of MMIA have been diverted to the D-Wing”.
